Long Island Snowstorm Updates

Long Island has just been buffeted by its latest winter storm, which brought enough snow down to clog commutes throughout the region.  The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) however has just tweeted that they should be running close to schedule from this point forward, forestalling further snow.  Earlier in the day, some trains were behind schedule, while others were not running at all.  Many commuters became stranded and were unable to make it to the office. 

Another transportation related emergency occurred in Selden today when a carport collapsed.  Firefighters responded, arriving at the scene to find two cars collapsed.  Thankfully however nobody was inside, and no injuries were reported.  The collapse of the roof also caused some damage to the rest of the structure, including electrical lines.  There was also a report that a house roof on Manhasset Avenue had collapsed as well, but this was a false rumor.  There were further concerns that the downed power lines might have caused a fire to start, but this also was thankfully not the case.  The emergency call came in around 8:16 in the morning, and was answered promptly by 20 Selden Fire Department firefighters.  They quickly secured the electrical setup so that any further hazards would be prevented.
