Wendy L Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Sometimes in order to enjoy life you need to let loose. Long Island is a wonderful place to help you do that.

This week we feature entertainment, shopping and dining that will help you kick back and have fun. We’re talking about fondue dining, comedy shows, and a place called Wrong Island Railroad. Each place is sure to help you loosen up and bring a smile to your face.

Here are this week’s highlights:

  • Fondue and Comedy Show in Great Neck: Simply Fondue of Great Neck features a free comedy show every Tuesday that starts at 8 pm. It regularly features acts from Comedy Central, VH-1, NBC, MTV, SIRIUS Radio, as well as top clubs in New York City. Come by to enjoy a free comedy show. And if you are looking to have a few drinks, appetizers and/or dinner before or after the show, Simply Fondue is right there for you. The fondue dining restaurant serves up melted cheese, chocolate, as well as fresh cut meat, seafood, and poultry. It is easily accessible by car, with free parking available at the Gardens Shopping Center, or train/bus. This location also features live DJ dance nights every Friday starting at 9 pm.
  • Open Mic Night in Smithtown: If you’re looking to dine out on Thursday’s then head over to Sertinos Cafe in Smithtown. For the upcoming Thursday’s it will feature open mic night from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm. Enjoy dinner and an evening filled with laughter.  Also, on Saturday, Jan 7th, starting at 9pm, the Wilshire Comedy Group brings to Sertinos Cafe the hottest Long Island comics. Sertinos Cafe is a coffee/café style shop where you can enjoy fresh, hot, deli-style sandwiches, Panini sandwiches, salads, healthy soups, as well as brewed or espresso coffees and high butterfat ice creams.
  • Toy Train Museum:  The Wrong Island Railroad in Lake Ronkonkoma has a tradition that goes back to 1984. Each year it puts up its Wrong Island Railroad operating toy train display for viewing at its museum. Its layout presents different regions of New York and helps bring back many childhood memories by showing what was, what is, and what the future can be along railroad tracks that go on and on. This short video from MyLITV.com highlights what you can expect. Head over there on any weekend thru Jan. 29, from noon – 5pm, to see the magnificent operating toy train display. It also offers a showcase of the most classic trains and has a large selection of Lionel Trains, K-Line, LGB, HO Trains, and Thomas the Tank Engine trains you can purchase.

Just remember that no matter how busy things get in life to always to have some fun and laughter!
