SUFFOLK COUNTY UNITED VETERANS RECEIVES GRANT

FROM THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION

RIVERHEAD, NY, June 11, 2012 – Through its Community Impact Grants Program, The Home Depot® Foundation has awarded $4,000 to Suffolk County United Veterans. The donation will be used to provide equipment and outdoor plantings that will enhance the accessibility, safety, longevity, and beauty of Veterans transitional housing.

“We needed indoor kitchen and living room modifications as well as outdoor enhancements to improve the housing for our Veterans,” said Michael Stoltz, Executive Director for Suffolk County United Veterans. “We were delighted to receive a $4,000 gift card from The Home Depot Foundation – our volunteers were so happy to get the supplies they needed!”

The Home Depot Foundation’s Community Impact Grants Program supports the work that local nonprofit organizations, public schools and other community organizations are doing to improve the physical health of their neighborhoods.

“We are delighted to support local volunteer projects aimed at creating and maintaining stable and healthy communities,” said Kelly Caffarelli, president, The Home Depot Foundation.  “Suffolk County United Veterans deserves enormous credit for the work it is doing, and we are glad to be part of their efforts.”

About Suffolk County United Veterans

SCUV, a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization, has been helping homeless Veterans to secure housing since 1989. Beginning with housing Veterans in private apartments, and leading to the opening of The Vets Place shelter in 1993, the organization has grown to provide emergency shelter services plus scattered site transitional and permanent housing. Case management, education and job training, and two food pantries target and serve Veterans plus families in support of our housing programs. All services focus on the goal to help veterans and military families to achieve self-sufficiency, sobriety, and independence, supporting our mission: “To assist homeless veterans to regain their dignity and independence.” Additional information is provided on our website at www.scuv.org.
