Save-A-Pet Receives $5,000 Grant from Best Friends Animal Society's No More Homeless Pets® Network

John Mitty Friday, May 31, 2013

(Port Jefferson Station, NY) — Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, Inc. has announced that it has won a first prize, $5,000 grant from Best Friends Animal Society’s No More Homeless Pets® Network after being selected from a number of animal welfare organizations responding to an online database survey.

Save-A-Pet will use the money to begin its “K911” program, which is aimed at rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters who may have to be euthanized because of medical conditions that would preclude them from being adopted. So far, Save-A-Pet has saved a Chi mix with a severe heart murmur and pneumonia; and a lab mix whose leg had to be amputated and who suffered internal bleeding after being hit by a car; two kittens who needed eye removal surgery; and a Pit Bull with severe mange.

The No More Homeless Pets Network is a program of Best Friends Animal Society focused on building relationships and working with other rescue organizations and municipal shelters all across the country to end the killing of dogs and cats at shelters nationwide. The network is comprised of 501(c)(3) public charity animal welfare groups and shelters committed to saving the lives of homeless pets through active adoption and/or spay/neuter programs.

“These animals could have died simply because they could not be treated at shelters they are brought to,” says Dori Scofield, President/Founder, Save-A-Pet. “We are more than elated to receive the grand prize and are working diligently to put it to wonderful use.”
