Martin Viette Nurseries Brings Focus to Conservation

John Mitty Saturday, May 11, 2013

East Norwich – New York – As we approach the summer season, this fundraiser is knocking on summer’s door – Martin Viette Nurseries brings flowers to the forefront with a “Flower Power” themed fundraiser to benefit the Interfaith Nutrition Network and Conservation District of Nassau on June 14, 2013 between 5 - 8PM at Martin Viette Nurseries Inc 6050 Northern Boulevard, East Norwich, NY 11732. Working with experts in horticulture to build community gardens that are also eco-friendly and will enhance the quality of life for the residents ofNassauCounty, environmental awareness is the goal of the benefit.

Many residents would like to become involved, but may not know how to go about it. Martin Viette Nurseries is highlighting the work of Conservation District of Nassau and The INN, since the work done in conservation helps benefit the establishment of healthy land to grow food and build vibrant communities. Established in 1977, the Conservation District of Nassau, which is part of a national network created by FDR, is committed to the protection, preservation, restoration and enhancement of our natural resources by providing education, technical assistance and consensus for all land users. In 1983 the INN started as a single soup kitchen run by a small group of concerned volunteers and has grown to offer wide-ranging programs to help people from all overLong Islandwho are plagued by hunger and homelessness.

An exhibit powered by images of flowers and using the creative community to draw attention to the environment, land use and water conservation is the theme and focus. Art from some of the most prolific artists onLong Islandwill be displayed in a silent auction exhibit right on the grounds of Martin Viette Nurseries. The show will be curated by Bob Goida, production manager atTillesCenterand runs The Long Island Fringe Festival with his partner Debra Ann Kasimakis. Kasimakis has been asked to help collect eager artist participants to submit works of art for a contest. Kasimakis mentioned, “I have always had an interest in the environment and have done much gardening on my own property. I believe this mission is important to help educate the public in a way that is inviting, fun and informative. I am more than happy to help.” The judges will have a tough task indeed choosing the best from this superb gathering of homegrown art valued at every price point. Martini, who is the volunteerNassauCountyhealth and wellness ambassador stated, “I am so happy that Martin Viette is publicly showing that they care about their community. Not only do they sell pretty plants, but they also care about making the region healthy for all. Van Dyke, who is involved in many civic and environmental activities, affirmed: “A healthy environment is at the center of helping people, animals, and wildlife thrive. The artists decorating chairs, shovels, and trowels should make a statement to help us think more about this.”

Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs Catering and Rosemary Doherty, a sommelier who is also a realtor with Laffey Associates, share the passion and are serving finger foods and beverages to help make the evening a unique experience as you walk among the creative, the gardeners and the environmental enthusiasts.
