ELIH NURSE TO BE HONORED BY LOCAL ROTARIANS

Eastern Long Island Hospital nurse, Cynthia Locrotondo, RN, is the recipient of the 2012 Laura Goodale Award. Cynthia will receive this prestigious award at The Soundview Restaurant in Greenport on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at a dinner held in her honor hosted by the Southold and Greenport Rotary Clubs. Both clubs will make a joint contribution to Eastern Long Island Hospital as a tribute to Cynthia for her dedication to the nursing profession.

A resident of Southold, Cynthia first worked at Eastern Long Island Hospital in 2007 in the Emergency Room as an Outpatient Services Technician. After graduating from Suffolk County Community College in 2008, Cynthia became a full time Strategic Planning Nurse on the Medical Surgical Unit and has since moved up the ranks as an Intensive Care nurse.

Established in 1986, the award is given each year to a caregiver who personifies the spirit of Laura Goodale. Fondly remembered by local residents as the ‘Florence Nightingale’ of the North Fork, Laura Goodale’s 42 year service record was so extraordinary that her memory still lives on in the hearts and minds of the community. Goodale began her career in 1918 when the hospital was a three-story Victorian Mansion.

“Just like Laura Goodale, Cindy is that kind of special nurse, dedicated, friendly and compassionate,” states D. Patricia Pispisa, Vice President Patient Care Services. “She is highly regarded by her peers and is well-known as a nurse who loves her profession. Cindy represents the true community spirit of ELIH where neighbors care for neighbors.”
