A SUMMER OF COMEDY BRINGS IN BIG LAUGHS THIS SUMMER AT BAY STREET THEATRE

June 4, 2012 (Sag Harbor, NY) –Bay Street Theatre is pleased to announce the 2012 Comedy Club lineup. The fun begins on June 11 and will continue on most Monday nights at 8 pm through August 27.

THE ALL STAR COMEDY SHOWCASE kicks off the fun on Monday, June 11, hosted by Joseph Vecsey and will feature the hottest rising stars from the stand up scene with the comedy of Yannis Pappas, Kenny Garcia, Sergio Chicon, Kareem Green and Dawn B. Tickets are $25.

Joseph Vecsey is a fast rising talent in comedy.  Vecsey hosts a podcast in which he discusses the art and business of comedy in a hilarious way with his guests that he has on each week on his talk show at http://www.podomatic.com/profile/josephvecsey. Each podcast features an exclusive interview with well-known comics who discuss their career, processes, and how they develop their material.

Yannis Pappas was recently selected as a “New Face” for the prestigious showcase at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and his character Mr. Panos was featured on a Canadian Just For Laughs television special. His weekly podcast, “It Could Be Better”, with fellow co-host, comedian Nate Bargatze, can be accessed on iTunes or at www.itcouldbebetter.org

Kenny Garcia has been busy tearing up stage in comedy clubs across the States.  Be sure to come out watch for this talented comedian.

Sergio Chicon was born and raised in New York City’s Lower East Side. Sergio was featured Comedy Central’s Funasticos & Comedy Central’s Los LOL, MTV TR3S, Miami Comedy Festival, SITV, Comedy Net, BET on Blast. Chicon has also performed at the Comedy Café in Amsterdam.

Kareem Green is a multi-faceted entertainer and comedian whose talents include stand-up, improv, acting, writing, and dancing. As a three-time champion at Showtime at the Apollo, Green’s relatable comedic style has earned him television appearances on BET and NBC. Green has also been featured at New York’s finest comedy clubs, including Caroline’s on Broadway, Laugh Factory, and Comic Strip. He has received national recognition in nationwide comedy competitions such as Comedy Central’s Laugh Riots and The Salem Orb Contest. He performs throughout New York, Chicago and Europe.

Dawn B takes no prisoners - front row beware. This feisty lady is originally from Chicago but now hails from Brooklyn, New York. By standing out in New York's congested comedy scene, Dawn has achieved much where so many others have failed. Dawn B delivers real talk through real comedy covering subjects from a females view point like being single and relationships with men.

THE IVY LEAGUE OF COMEDY continues the laughs on Monday, June 18, hosted by emcee Shaun Eli and it will feature the stand-up fun with Myq Kaplan, Joe DeVito and Dan Naturman as seen on The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, Craig Ferguson, and Comedy Central. Tickets are $25.

Shaun Eli has been called one of the smartest comics in the country by Reader's Digest. His clean, clever comedy is featured on Sirius XM Satellite Radio and he has been profiled on CBS Radio Business News. He is also a frequent contributor to the opening monologue of The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno, who has cited one of Shaun's jokes as an example of the type of "smart comedy" which he's happy to include in his opening monologue. You can find Shaun's jokes, stand-up video, comedic essays and biography on his web site www.BrainChampagne.com, where his slogan "Brain Champagne: Clever Comedy for Smart Minds " rings true.

Dan Naturman began performing stand-up comedy several years ago in, believe it or not, law school. After graduation he decided to devote himself to stand-up full time. Dan's charming combination of self-deprecation and outright grouchiness has had audiences howling from coast to coast and has earned him spots on The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, as well as his own Comedy Central Presents special.

Myq Kaplan  (pronounced “Mike Kaplan”) made his network television debut on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and has since gone on to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and in his own half-hour Comedy Central Presents: Myq Kaplan special. Most recently, he was a Top 5 finalist on the most recent season of Last Comic Standing. For more bragging, check out www.myqkaplan.com, or ask his grandmother.

Joe DeVito will bring his comedic talents to Sag Harbor. After spending a decade as a journalist and advertising writer, Joe gave into his coworker's demands to try performing so he could find fame, while they finally got some work done. Joe's TV appearances include The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, and a semi-finalist turn on season five of Last Comic Standing. His savage wit has also made him an in-demand panelist on shows like Chelsea Lately, CNN's Headline News, Animal Planet's Wild 100, and a regular guest on Red Eye.

On Monday, July 16, Ben Bailey brings the laughs to the Comedy Club at Bay Street. Bailey is the host of “Who’s Still Standing?” and “Cash Cab” on The Discovery Channel, for which he has won two Daytime Emmy Awards as Outstanding Game Show Host. Other television appearances include, “30 Rock”, “Oprah”, “The Today Show”, “Mad TV", late night talk shows and “Comedy Central's Premium Blend”. Tickets are $60 for members and $67 nonmembers*.

The Comedy Club continues with Orlando Jones on Monday, July 23. Jones began his Hollywood career as a writer on NBCs “A Different World”, Fox’s “Martin” starring Martin Lawrence and writing/producing Fox’s “Roc Live” starring Charles Dutton. Orlando later combined his writing and acting talents on Fox’s “Mad TV”. On Broadway he was in the revival of THE WIZ and in LA he performed in FENCES. Jones films include The Replacements and Drumline. Tickets are $60 for members and $67 nonmembers*.

Grammy and Tony Award nominee Robert Klein brings his talent to the Comedy Club on Monday, August 13. For more than forty years, Robert Klein has entertained audiences, and he continues to have an acclaimed career in comedy, on Broadway, on television, and in film. He was nominated twice for a Grammy Award for “Best Comedy Album of the Year” for his albums “Child of the Fifties” and “Mind over Matter”. Klein received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the hit Neil Simon musical, THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG. Other Broadway includes THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG. On television he’s had dozens of guest-starring roles on “Sisters” and “Law and Order”, and he regularly appears on talk shows, making more than 100 appearances on “The Tonight Show” and “The Late Show with David Letterman” alone. Klein has also appeared in many notable films including, Two Weeks Notice, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and The Back-Up Plan. Tickets are $60 for members and $67 nonmembers*.

On Monday, August 20, the Comedy Club presents Susie Essman, who has played the sassy Susie Greene for all seven seasons of the critically-acclaimed HBO comedy series, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.  Her hilarious bouts of withering sarcasm and uninhibited insults have become her character’s trademark. The Los Angeles Times calls Susie, “the most lyrical purveyor of profanity on television.  She makes the entire cast of ‘The Sopranos’ look like rank amateurs.” The New York Times calls her “one of the most vivid characters in the show, whose off-color tantrums have become an audience favorite the way Kramer's clumsy entrances once were.” A stand-up comedian for 25 years, Essman has appeared in her own half-hour HBO comedy special, made numerous appearances on shows including “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “The View”, and “Crank Yankers”. Film roles include the voice of Mittens the Cat in the Disney animated film Bolt.  And now Susie adds published author to her list of accomplishments. Last fall her book “What Would Susie Say…” was published by Simon & Schuster.

Tickets are $60 for members and $67 nonmembers*.

Jim Breuer completes the Comedy Club lineup on Monday, August 27. A stand-up comedian since his high school days at Valley Stream Central High School in Valley Stream, NY, Breuer worked in comedy clubs around the country for several years before deciding to become a regular on the New York comedy club circuit. In 1995, Jim joined NBC's "Saturday Night Live" becoming best known for his original character "Goat Boy" and his impression of actor Joe Pesci. After a four-year stint on "SNL", Jim starred in the movie "Half Baked" alongside Dave Chappelle. Additional appearances include numerous stints on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" as well as roles in several movies, such as Dick, Once in the Life, Beer League and most recently The Zookeeper with Kevin James. Breuer pioneered the "heavy-metal comedy" revolution, combining his love of rock 'n' roll with comedy.  Jim's "Heavy Metal Man" comedy tours also feature a mix of routines that have become cult favorites, such as "The Wizard", "Coming Home at 4 a.m.", and "Party in the Stomach". It was this act that garnered him one of Comedy Central's "100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time". His Sirius Satellite Radio show "Fridays with Breuer,” airs every Friday. Tickets are $60 for members and $67 nonmembers*.

The Comedy Club night of July 9 is still to be determined. Watch for the announcement on www.baystreet.org. Tickets to The All Star Comedy Showcase and The Ivy League of Comedy are $25.
