Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Honors Atria Senior Living at its 29th Annual Gala

On Thursday, October 25th, 2012, Alzheimer’s Association Long Island (AALI) will host its 29th Annual Gala at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, located at Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Garden City from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This year’s gala honors John Moore, Chief Executive Officer of Atria Senior Living, and will also celebrate the Atria Senior Living communities on Long Island.

This year’s theme is “Broadway Nights,” with music provided by Mickey’s Entertainment & Promotions in conjunction with Gary Reynolds Associates, Ltd. Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $250, with proceeds benefiting The Mickey & Felice Neuwirth Care Center & The Long Island Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, which provides services for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Atria Senior Living and local Atria communities have been at the forefront of supporting AALI’s efforts to assist Long Island families who are facing the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. These Atria communities provide much-needed training sites and are instrumental in developing Mini Walk events that have raised thousands of dollars, which has helped AALI continue to provide valuable programs and services for all those affected by this disease. In addition, under the direction of David Serica, Director of Culinary Services at Atria South Setauket, Atria employees volunteer their time and provide breakfast for thousands of walkers who participate in the Chapter’s annual Walk To End Alzheimer’s.

Atria’s leader, Mr. Moore, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Yale University. He is an active member of Atria’s Board of Directors, as well as various industry associations, including the Pension Real Estate Association, the Executive Board of the American Senior Housing Association and the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry (NIC). Having been at the helm of Atria since 2003, Mr. Moore has also worked in the New York area as a Managing Director of Lazard Alternative Investors and a Managing Principal and Chief Financial Officer of Lazard Real Estate Partners (LREP).

“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Moore has graciously accepted our invitation to be this year’s Gala Honoree,” said Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Association Long Island. “The event will honor Mr. Moore and all of the Long Island Atria Senior Living Communities for their tireless dedication to our cause. With their continued support, we have been able to grow this Chapter beyond even my own expectations.”

Currently, 5.4 million people in this country have Alzheimer’s disease and more than 60,000 of them reside on Long Island. By the middle of this century, it is estimated that approximately 14-16 million people will have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease; 1 out of 8 baby boomers is at risk.

Black tie is optional. Sponsorship opportunities are available. To register, call 1 (800) 272-3900. For more information about Alzheimer’s Association Long Island, please contact Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO at (631) 820-8068 or visit www.alz.org/longisland.
