St. Catherine of Siena Thanks its Volunteers during National Volunteer Week

Smithtown, NY - April 15th, 2015 - In recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 12-18, 2015, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center held a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon for their 198 volunteers at the Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown on April 15th.

National Volunteer Week, established in 1974, is a time dedicated to demonstrate to the nation that by working together, organizations have the fortitude to meet challenges and accomplish goals.

St. Catherine’s Director of Public and External Affairs/Volunteers Heather Reynolds welcomed the room of volunteers and thanked them for their gift of time to the medical center.  Director of Pastoral Care Sister Patricia McDonnell gave the invocation, followed by a special note of thanks from St. Catherine’s Executive Vice President/CAO Paul J. Rowland. “Thank you all for volunteering your time and delivering your service with such compassion—we thank you for your efforts every day and celebrate you—especially during National Volunteer Week.”

Also in attendance to celebrate volunteers was St. Catherine’s Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Care Center Administrator John Chowske. “We have 90 active volunteers at the Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center, offering their gift of time in many different divisions throughout our facility, which is a huge success,” said Mr. Chowske. “I have worked in long-term care for more than 20 years and I have never seen such participation—it truly is invaluable.”

The luncheon was an opportunity for senior leadership to thank its volunteers for time donated to the Hospital, Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center and Siena Village. Volunteers received customized pins for hours of service from 1 hour to more than 20,000 hours. Long time volunteers, Anne Crandall, congratulated for her 141,861 hours, along with Georgia Priebe for an astounding 20,078 hours of service.

Siena Village Administrator Kim Parbst proudly stated, “We could not function any day of the week without all of our volunteers.”
